In his first media interview since joining oOh!media this year, Chris Freel has opened up on the big move and joining the out of home sector.
Appearing on a new episode of Mumbrella’s one-on-one podcast, Freel discussed leaving the CEO position at UnLtd to join oOh!media as group sales director.
“It was a really difficult decision to leave,” he told host Neil Griffiths.
“Great people, great board at UnLtd, but I was keen to get back into the sales side of the media world as well.”
Now some nine months into the oOh!media role, Freel conceded that he knew it would be a “big change” going into the sales side of a corporate organisation.
The change in pace has also been a key takeout.
“You’re the new person again. I hadn’t been the new person for a long time,” he said.
“So you’ve got lots to learn and lots of relationships to make… it’s a pretty big sales team across five states that I work with. It’s also sideways, upwards, and out with clients and also trying to manage yourself at the same time. So that’s been the constant for me.
“I’m new to outdoor as well. So, learning a whole new channel has been something that I’ve really immersed myself in and still immersed in as well. It really is a fascinating channel.”
